Pictures From Today - Sign Going Up

I was at home sitting on the sofa with Bella, still in my pajamas, thinking about how i wanted to spend my day off when I got an email saying - Guys are on the way! It took me a few minutes to realize what was going on. I emailed Angela at Signs by Tomorrow to tell her iPurl is closed on Mondays and I am at home. I remind Angela that I live 45 minutes from the shop, adding 15 minutes to dress, it will be an hour before I get there! BIG sigh! I really wanted to throw a Diva Hissy Fit and say NO! YOU SHOULD HAVE CALLED FIRST! But, we need our sign up, so....

As I drive into the parking lot, it is raining! The guys are standing under the covered area at the front door. The sun is shining and they say, with smiles, they will wait it out. After getting back to work, it didn't take them long at all. Besides the issue of the electric connection possibly not being where it should be, everything went well. (the sign won't be lighted until the electric issue is sorted)

As you can see, it has just stopped raining

Back up they go

The "l" is up

I realized that is our sign laying on the floor of the lift at his feet. Doesn't look like several thousand $$ worth does it?

A couple of nice fellas who agreed to be photographed while installing the sign

(even got a pose a little wave)

Going to the roof to check for electrical connection

Great Job, Guys! Thank You!

You Never Know Who Will Frequent a Yarn Shop

While the wife shopped, these fellas entertained us with stories from a European Cruise! They had great stories of a restaurant in Turkey where John showed them how to scramble eggs Texas style! I am sure Greece will never be the same.

John and his son james

John makes crepe paper flowers and takes them wherever he goes "spreading sunshine"! We loved these fellas - visited with me about 30 minutes. (I got a purple flower and Cindy got a pink)

Saturday at iPurl

Cindy and I are looking forward to a fun day in the shop. It is our FIRST Saturday!

Hip to Stitch is having their knit group here today. Anyone is welcome to come join in the fun!

They are working on some beautiful things today!

(Yes, they do have a can of Redi Whip on the table)

WE ARE OPEN!

Today is our first day open. We have already had several customers. I want to spotlight our FIRST customer - Mary Hougland. She signed our dollar bill and it will be framed. Thank you, Mary!

We have our Lantern Moon Basket full of knitting/crochet goodness set up in the front window. Please register when you come in. The value is well over $150.00 dollars - we haven't had time to add up the items yet. Lantern Moon sent $115.00 worth of merchandise to go into the basket and we have added to it.

We have only had one minor glitch so far - our thermal printer for credit card transactions wasn't printing! I called customer service and they walked us thru and got it working within minutes.

We are having a steady stream of customers. Come by and see us today.

Malabrigo

It's on the way!

A Day of Retail Therapy

Alexis is here. Joe and I picked her up Saturday doing a round trip to Lake Charles.

Pats of Henderson was the lunch spot for our birthday lunch with Mom. There was a nice family group - Kim and Todd with Matthew and Kayla. Pam with Alexis and Jayden. My brother Gary and Darline along with Joe and I. The food was excellent and the conversation was fast!

I am not working today. It will be wonderful to spend the day with Alexis. We have several places we plan to go today.

Tomorrow we will be working in the shop!

The Permit from Hell!

We still do not have our Certificate of Occupancy! It's almost funny now. It has certainly been most elusive. Joe suggested I call and check on the status. It wasn't easy to find the phone number as it wasn't the office where I applied for the permit. I finally found the number on a copy of the fax transmission paper. I was told that it was ready and I could come pick it up any time. Pick it up? No one has EVER said we had to go pick it up! We thought it would be mailed. If you are not mailing an important document shouldn't you let people know in some way? The Fire Marshal never said anything about picking it up.

So, Cindy lives in Conroe and volunteered to go by this morning and pick it up for me. (she has been working with me at the shop the last two days). When she finally found the office, there was a note on the door that the office was closed for a funeral.

We will try again next week......

Picture of Door

Zach came out and put our info on the door and glass side panel. He did a great job! Thank you, Zach.

We took the brown paper off of the windows. People are knocking on the door and waving or walking in to talk to us. It's really been fun. Tuesday, a lady stuck her head in to ask if we were going to have classes as she wanted to learn to knit. We told her we would be having knitting classes soon! Another lady knocked on the door to tell me she is telling everyone about the shop. Lots of people walking by giving us a "thumbs up".

We are hoping to open July 17th. We still haven't received our Certificate of Occupancy! I hear the permits office is running way behind. I will be calling them tomorrow since we are not supposed to open without that permit.

My current frustration is ordering merchandise and not all of it coming in. We did receive a fairly large order on Tuesday from two different companies but they were only portions of the orders. I will be on the phone calling yarn companies where we have BACKORDERS asking them to check and send anything they have gotten in no matter how small the amount. It will all arrive eventually ...

Happy 4th of July!

Joe and I want to wish a Happy 4th of July to everyone today. We wish you great BBQ and spectacular fireworks!
